Track One of my dissertation… which is to write a Trip-Hop EP and 5000 words on the Bristol Sound. This first track is based on Massive Attack… the English rapping especially.

Boards of Canada - do they ever tour?

I searched and some forum says only a handful of times.. has anyone on Tumblr seen BoC live? If so, how was it?

I would love to see them live, so much!

Live at the Flee - a kinda rambling review

So Pas and I rolled up around 8pm. Higs was already there - he had been there for around an hour. What a pro. Bass amp set up, pint in hand, having a conversation with the sound man.

Pas and I quickly discovered that the booze was free for the bands - so we tried our best to be sensible… kinda were actually.. before we played, anyway. After sitting outside listening to the first band for about an hour, we got ready to go play some rock ‘n’ roll.

Had a quick sound check and then it was up to me for about 40 minutes to play an acoustic set. Man it was hot up there. Snapped two strings with Jane in the first ten minutes… borrowed a guitar from the other band. Played the rest of my set. After I’d had enough I called the guys to the stage - at which point I realised we needed a break! So we went outside, had a smoke and a bit of a laugh with Naomi “It Girl” Rose and then proceeded to play our band set.

Started off with a new song - Somebody Started - at which point I was fully aware of the fact that the onstage sound was great. We could hear everything man. Pas and Higs were groovy as hell, my guitar was sounding great, the planets aligned pretty much.

At a certain point we realised we would be finished far too early and so we did it. Yes, we did. Jazz Odyssey. Lasted for about 10 minutes! Some great playing by all. Need to ask Higs what that scale is at some point. We should trade licks fo sho.

We were asked to an encore and didn’t have a song ready. Somehow we all came to decide that we’d play Hush (Deep Purple and later, Kula Shaker). So a quick double check of the chords was had and then WALLOP, we played it off the cuff and actually pulled it off!

So there ye are, another gig under our belts. Hopefully more to come!

Hazy Jane

So I got a new guitar, her name is Hazy Jane and she’s a 1969 Gibson J-45 acoustic. That means she’s a vintage model, people.

I travelled to London to find her. I played her and fell head over heels. I tend to do that, what a weak man I am.

Pictures to come…

Simon

Congrats for the guitar. Nice one (I saw the pic few posts ahead on my dashboard). I have also a vintage one. Gibson SG 1963. Named Gilda by a friend who was always kinda stoned and swears he once saw the word GILDA instead of GIBSON written on it. Thinking about posting a picture of Gilda.

I would love to see Gilda. I was actually thinking of getting an SG for my next electric. I don’t think I want to buy anything other than vintage now.

Post that picture!
